Band Staff

Kenneth Taber - Band Director
 
Kenneth Taber is an experienced music educator and performer with over 7 years of experience teaching and directing band programs. He holds a Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning from the University of Redlands as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the same institution, where he was the recipient of the School of Music scholarship. Taber also earned an Associate of Arts in Music from Riverside City College, graduating with Great Distinction. He has served as the Colton High School Band Director since 2021, directing the wind ensemble, beginning band, marching band, and jazz band. Prior to his current role, Taber gained experience as a temporary band director at Brea Olinda High School and through assisting the band, orchestra, jazz band, and percussion programs at Cope Middle School. He is an Eagle Scout and has been recognized by the Colton City Council for his contributions to music education in the community. His primary instrument is trumpet.
SHAUN GALVAN
 
Shaun Galvan, Assistant Band Director
 

Shaun Galvan has been playing percussion since 1999 and specializes in jazz drumming and percussion. His accomplishments include being named a two-time SCSBOA Jazz All Star and performing twice in the Tournament of Roses Parade during his high school career. Galvan went on to hone his skills at the university level, playing with prestigious jazz ensembles at Irvine Valley College, the University of Virginia, the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music in Australia, and Stanford University. He led his own big band and combo groups post-college. He is now an experienced educator, having led two percussion programs at two California schools before becoming Assistant Band Director at Temescal Canyon High School. Galvan credits his deep knowledge and performance abilities to his own teachers including Joe Shaw, Matt Johnson, Paul Johnson, Richard Watson, and Eric Samson. When not teaching music and chemistry courses at TCHS, Galvan regularly performs jazz percussion across Southern California, passing on his passion for the drums to the next generation of young musicians. 

Jasmine Ramirez
 
 
Jasmine Ramirez, Colorguard Director
 
Jasmine Ramirez has been involved in the winter guard sport since her eighth grade year of middle school. She started with the Warm Springs Middle School Colorguard and continued on to compete at the highest level with the Vista Murrieta High School Marching Band and their championship-winning Varsity Winterguard. After high school, Ramirez marched professionally with the Blue Knights Colorguard for their 2019 season. Since then, she has taught the Warm Springs Middle School Colorguard, helping them become undefeated Junior High Open Champions in her first year directing the resurrected program. Ramirez has also taught the Lisa J Mails Colorguard and worked with the Murrieta Valley High School Crimson Cadet Colorguard. Outside of winter guard, she choreographs dances professionally and has won awards for theater performance she has created. Ramirez believes teaching is her purpose, and hopes to continue spreading knowledge for years to come.
Liam Maxwell
 
 
Liam Maxwell, Battery Instructor
 
Liam Maxwell is a percussion educator and composer currently residing in Southern California. Liam is proud to have performed with many ensembles including Heat Wave, The Blue Knights, Veritas, Carolina Crown, and Broken City Percussion. He has taught a variety of ensembles in the states of California, Texas, Florida, and Indiana. Currently, Liam is also on the educational staff at Carolina Crown and Vista Murrieta High School.

John Cross, Visual and Brass Technician
 
John Cross was raised in Southern California and began playing trumpet at the age of seven. While in High School he was bit by the DCI bug and joined the Velvet Knights 1980-1982, and then continued his college career at SDSU were he played in Marching Band, Jazz Bands, Pep Bands and was working at one point on his Music Performance major, when he decided to get his Elementary Education major. Since graduating SDSU, he was worked with many High School bands on visual instruction, from San Diego, Orange County and Riverside High Schools. This will be his second year with Temescal Canyon High School, and is looking forward to see the kids do an incredible job on the field this year.
