    5. Reflection on Friday's reading.  Each answer should be DETAILED.  Write as much as you can. The more thoughtful your responses are, the more points you will earn.  Make sure you respond in COMPLETE sentences.
      1. Now that you have completed 10 chapters of Stargirl and gotten a feeling for the story, why do you think the author, Jerry Spinelli, tells the story from Leo's point of view?  Why is seeing events unfold from Leo's eyes important?
      2. How would the story change if Stargirl was the narrator?  Explain your answer using two examples/events from the story. (For example: If ___ had been told from Stargirl's point of view, it would change ___.)
      3. In Chapter 9, we see Stargirl being accepted and even becoming popular for who she is. Other students allow their own individuality to come out as well.  Then, as suddenly as her popularity started, things change.  Chapter 10 takes a dramatic turn. It starts with Leo and Kevin excited for Stargirl to be on Hot Seat, then shifts. Things suddenly start to go...wrong again.  Discuss two events in Chapter 10 that "go wrong" for Stargirl.  Why do you think the people/students reacted the way they did to those events?
      4. How would YOU have reacted to the two events you discussed in #2. Would you have continued to think Stargirl was just a unique, quirky girl, who does things with nothing but the best of intentions? Or would you have seen her actions as offensive? Explain your response. Be honest. No one will read this but me.

      1. How do YOU personally conform to social norms? Give two of three examples of things you to do conform and be like others.  Remember, conform means to comply with socially acceptable behaviors, and social norms are the informal rules that govern specific social groups.
      2. No two people are the same.  What makes you special?  In other words, how are you different/unique from others?
      3. Have you ever made someone feel bad for being different? Or have you ever been made to feel bad about yourself because you were different? Be honest. No one else will read this but me & you will not share these responses with classmates. Explain what happened.  If you can not think of any for yourself, perhaps you witnessed something (an act of bullying would qualify as someone being made to feel bad about who they are for being "different" somehow. Maybe they were too tall, or too short, or looked different, or were poor, or...etc.)

      1. After reading The Most Dangerous Game yesterday, do you believe that all humans are valuable and should be treated equally? EXPLAIN your answer.
      2. Do you think that Zaroff "got what he deserved?" (Think here... if you answered in #1 that all humans are valuable and equal, doesn't that mean Zaroff is also valuable and equal? How can you justify his death?)
      3. Rewrite the ending.  How would you change it?  "I would keep it the same." or "I wouldn't change it." is not an acceptable answer. Think about the concept that all human life is valuable and think of a possible alternative ending.
