HMCA 10 Advanced (Period 4) Assignments

Today and the rest of the week is dedicated to the Holocaust/Medical Research project. You can find it attached below along with your study guide for Night. 

Please finish the novel and the questions today in class. Chapters 8 and 9 due tomorrow. 

Today we read Chapter 6 in class. Analysis is due tomorrow. 

Today we read half of chapter 4, and then started the vocabulary assignment.

Wednesday we finished reading Chapter 4, completed the analysis, and worked on the vocabulary assignment. Chapter 4 questions and vocab are due tomorrow. PLEASE READ CHAPTER 5 FOR HOMEWORK! READING QUIZ TOMORROW! 

Thursday/Tuesday:

-Looked at biographies of Holocaust victims

Monday/Tuesday's project! 

Today (Friday) we will finish the novel. Analysis for the last 6 chapter attached below. 

Today was silent reading. 

Today we started part II of Things Fall Apart by China Achebe. Questions for chapters 14-17 are below. 

 

Chapter 14:

1. What evidence is there that Okonkwo has lost his love of work?
2. What is the name of Okonkwo’s uncle?
3. Summarize Uchendu’s argument to Oknonkwo about his attitude.

    Chapter 15:

1. Who or what finally shows up in Umuofia? How do the villagers respond?

Chapter 16:

1. How does Nwoye start to change in chapter 16?

Chapter 17:  

1. How do the villagers try to trick the missionaries in chapter 17?
2. Provide a quote/s that answers the following two questions: What decision does Nwoye make in this chapter? How does Okonkwo try to justify Nwoye’s actions in his own mind?

Vocab assignment for Things Fall Apart Chapters 10-13:

Today (3/14) we went over unseen commentary. FOR HOMEWORK TONIGHT, please read chapter 7 and complete the analysis. Questions are attached along with a copy of the novel in case you left your book at school.

Friday please read chapters 5 and 6. Questions below. 

Today we read Chapter 4 in class. Please answer the following questions in COMPLETE SENTENCES:

Pages 14-19 of the Things Fall Apart unit are due.

Monday and Tuesday we completed the Oedipus Infographic. Assignment is below. 

Today in class we finished reading "Oedipus The King" part 2. Page 721 is due Monday. You must do ALL OF IT. Complete 1-5 on the worksheet, and the rest (including the research questions) need to be on a separate piece of paper.

Pages 700 and 701 are due today. 

Today in class we completed pages 698 and 699 in your textbook. Please have those pages complete before you come to class tomorrow.

Tuesday we started our work in Unit 6: Blindness and Sight. So far we have completed pages 658-663. 

Today we are creating and performing dramatic irony skits. You must be in class today to get the assignment. 

Today we read the first 32 lines of Act III, and then delivered speech #3. Tomorrow we will continue Act III, and possibly give speech #4. 

 

REMEMBER! ALL CAMPAIGN WORK MUST BE TURNED IN BY FRIDAY! VIVA ROME!

Wednesday you were given your Julius Caesar Notebook. IF YOU LOSE IT, YOU MUST PRINT A NEW ONE FROM HERE.

 

We completed the notes from pages 6 and 7. The powerpoint is attached below if you were not here. 

Tuesday we watched "The Rise and Fall of The Roman Empire" Episode 3: Julius Caesar. We completed a worksheet for the documentary, so you'll need to get that from me if you weren't here. 

We will be continuing with the presentations this week. 

Below are the directions for the Explanatory Presentation.

Today is day #1 of working on your explanatory presentation. If you were not here, please contact your group members. 

Tuesday we read "Beware: Do Not Read This Poem", "The Raven", and "Windigo" then we completed the comprehension check on page 109. Be sure to complete the research question as well. 

Please complete pages 96-98. You may skip "Write It" at the bottom of 98. Every other section needs to be done, but keep in mind some of them only ask you to discuss with your group. 

Thursday we read "Why Do Some Brains Enjoy Fear?" and completed the comprehension check on page 95 INCLUDING the research questions. 

Monday and Tuesday we are analyzing photographs from "The Dream Collector". By the end of class on Tuesday we will have completed pages 82-88. All work is due Wednesday.

Your job is to put together an informational graphic on the aspects that make The Fall of The house of usher a gothic tale.

Requirements:

Title and Author

You must include all five aspects from pages 51-53.

YOU MUST USE “reclusive” and “sinister” in your infographic.

Each aspect MUST have a dynamic image and contain a passage from the story as evidence. ***NOTE: For “It’s set in the olden days” you may simply explain what time period the story is from since you won’t find a passage explaining that.

Today in class we completed page 47. All work is due Thursday. 

Today we finished reading "A House Taken Over" and completed pages 43, 44, 45. All work is due Monday. 

Today in class we reviewed page 45 and then completed page 46. All work was due at the end of class. 

• Today you write your own Gothic Tale! Use your notes to make sure you have all of the traditional characteristics of Gothic Literature in your story. Your story must be at least 250 words and must include an illustration. Be creative and HAVE FUN!

Pages 32, 33, 34, and 35 are due today. 

Today is the sophomore field trip to The Wild Animal Park. Have fun! 

Thursday we will complete pages 32 and 33 in your textbook.

•     -Using the RESEARCH AND DATA from the article and the documentary, tell your audience what the data says about what makes people the happiest, and what makes them the least happy.This is like an ADVERTISEMENT for how to OBTAIN and MAINTAIN your happiness.
•     YOUR AD MUST CONTAIN ETHOS, PATHOS, AND LOGOS!
•     Put your name in the LOWER RIGHT corner.

I have changed the due date for the Happiness module work. It will all be due tomorrow. After warm up, you will need to turn in:

Thursday we completed activities 9 and 10, and started the documentary "Happy". We will finish the documentary tomorrow.
