Project One: What’s in Your Home?

Assigned: September 11th, 2019    Due: September 24th, 2019

NOTE: We will work on this in class on Monday the 23rdJ

NOTE: DO NOT SHOW YOUR FLOOR PLAN TO ANYONE!!

 

You will either locate a floor plan of a home you like (KEEP IT SIMPLE), or draw a floor plan filling one page, follow directions below:

  1. You will need to make sure it is done accurately (straight lines, doors, windows, fireplace, sink, stove…). Evidence of care must be seen by: Straight lines; Furniture & appliances laid out correctly; Items needing to be found by class (Hairbrush, car keys, textbook…)

I will be scoring you on neatness and accuracy & signing.

You will describe your homes layout, including furniture & class will draw it out.
Once this is done, let the class know what they need to find & where it is located. Class, will circle where they found it.

Signing Chairs: Ask each person questions a-g, once this is done you will be in groups and create a table showing the result of your survey.

The Goal of This Project: Using ASL to give directions and descriptions requires you to think visually and graphically.  In this learning plan you use role play to describe rooms and furniture arrangement, give directions to locations around a house or apartment, and incorporate classifiers and non-manual behaviors in narratives.

ASL IV: Project One:

Narrating Unforgettable Moments

See pages 16-21 to complete this project

Assigned: September 12th ,2019       Due: September 24th, 2019

NOTE: We will be working on this in class Monday 23rd

You will recall an embarrassing or unforgettable story that either happened to you or you happened to witness. (Grandma B appropriate). The story must represent a situation from the following categories:

  1.        touching the wrong person
  2.        spilling/wetting
  3.        something  falling
  4.        careless mistake
  5.        caught in the act
  6.        embarrassed by someone else

The story must have at least two characters. If the story is about someone else, make sure you know the story well enough to elaborate on it.

The story needs to be between 3-5 minutes long.

Follow the Narrative Structure found on page 16 of your textbook. Please be sure to read over the grading criteria on Pg. 17.

To enhance your stories read pages 18-21 & watch corresponding DVD

Objectives: You will, “develop essential skills needed to tell a story successfully. Students learn ways of using role shift to help enhance the story; they learn the importance of maintaining spatial agreement when using role shift; they learn to sequence classifiers in order to fully describe what happened; they learn to time their reactions to coincide with falls, trips, or other types of mishaps; and they learn to elaborate on the story by giving descriptions, sharing thoughts, and giving reasons.”
