Sophomore Corner Stone Project

This project is designed for high school sophomores in the HMCA. All sophomores are required to complete the Cornerstone Project, as this will be counted towards your Senior Exhibition Project. The sophomore project allows students to demonstrate their understanding of their chosen career pathway and research methods for attaining their career goals. Students should be able to demonstrate the following skills:

•    Long and short term goal completion
•    Professional communication
•    Research Methods
•    Professional attitudes
•    Insightful self‐evaluation
•    Time management
•    Organization and planning
•    Presentation strategies

Research Paper Information

Students will write a 2-3 page research paper by writing on the career goal of their choice. The paper should:

• reflect the student’s particular interest in their career pathway
• illustrate the steps the student will take to achieve their career goals

Research Paper Requirements

• 1 inch margins
• 12 point font, Times New Roman
• Page numbers in a consistent location according to APA format.
• Double‐spaced throughout the outline, text, and works cited page.
• Minimum of two (2) credible sources.
• Proficient level of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage.
• In‐text and/or parenthetical documentation
• A works cited page according to APA format.
• Two to three (2‐3) pages in length, NOTincluding the title page, and works

  cited page.

Paper must be turned in as part of a research folder to include:

•    Research paper
•    Works cited
•    Research articles printed out and annotated

Presentation:

You will be required to do a 3-5 minute power point presentation based on your research paper. This will take place in one of your HMCA class. Your presentation needs to have information on your selected career, why you selected this career, the steps you need to take so you can achieve your career goal, how you plan on following through, and a minimum of 5 visuals.
