Arts

Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)

The Temescal Canyon High School Visual and Performing Arts department is dedicated to providing aspiring artists and scholars with an academically rigorous pre-college curriculum and a comprehensive, four-year arts experience.

Drawing & Painting

The TCHS Visual and Performing Arts Department offers both introductory and advanced courses in Drawing and Painting. In addition, students may pursue Studio Art (Advanced Art, 2nd year) and IB Studio Art. These courses provide opportunities for students to expand their artistic skills, explore a wide range of media, and further develop their creative expression and technical abilities.

Ceramics

Our Ceramics and Advanced Ceramics courses offer students the opportunity to explore creativity through hands-on clay work. In Ceramics, students learn foundational techniques such as hand-building and glazing, while developing artistic expression and craftsmanship. Advanced Ceramics builds on these skills, allowing students to refine their techniques, experiment with complex forms, and create a cohesive portfolio that showcases their unique artistic voice.

Music

Temescal Canyon High School’s music program provides students with a strong foundation in musical theory while offering diverse opportunities to explore wind instruments, guitar, drums and percussion, band, and color guard. Through hands-on learning and performance experiences, students develop technical skills, creativity, and confidence as musicians in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Drama

The TCHS Spotlight Players, established in 1999, serve as a premier theatrical education and production program for high school students in the community. The program is dedicated to producing high-quality performances while providing students with meaningful artistic and personal growth opportunities.

The Spotlight Players strive to:

  • Produce performances of exceptional quality
  • Challenge students with productions that expand their abilities and convey meaningful themes
  • Encourage the development of advanced skills and mastery in the theatre arts
  • Foster a lifelong appreciation for and involvement in theatre
  • Promote integrity, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic
  • Create an inclusive environment that welcomes all TC students, regardless of background or experience

In 2024, the TCHS Spotlight Players’ production of Chicago marked the return of a live orchestra pit to TCHS performances. TCHS is proud to be the only high school in the district to feature live musical accompaniment, further enhancing the authenticity and quality of its productions.
